She is a long time childhood friend of Madame de Montespan, who was introduced to Versailles as her child's caretaker and wet nurse.
Louis takes a liking towards her. After Madame de Montespan is exiled from the court, Madame de Maintanon becomes King Louis' personal consort. Things quickly unravel once Louis XIV of France learns that Scarron sold herself to noblemen at Château Villarceaux as a widowed teenager. She chooses to withdraw from court to a convent but Louis finds himself missing not only her counsel, but general companionship. He ultimately goes personally to ask her to return to not only the court, but to him.
