Anatole Montcourt was a disgraced nobleman who was stripped of his title, ridiculed, and banished from Versailles by Louis XIV after failing to prove his nobility.

He is also a major player in the coup against the king.

Personality[]

Montcourt is known to hold a grudge and takes things personally which is why he joined the rebel conspirators. He is also known to look out for himself which is why he exposed an assassination plot against Henriette of England.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Montcourt was the son of the commoner, the Baron of Saint-Maur, who inherited the title from his grandfather, Seigneur Charles de Saint-Maur; a manor farmer who married his his stepgrandmother was the Baroness of Saint-Maur. 

Season One[]

He was recruited by the Duke of Cassel as a conspirator in the coup against King Louis. His main job was leading a team of highwaymen to rob carriages as part of their ploy to impede the funding of Versailles.

Louis XIV of France[]

Ridiculed and ousted by him for failing to provide proof of nobility, Montcourt despises him and wants him dead. He learned of a plot against Henriette and offered Louis information in exchange to be allowed in Versailles once again.

Duke of Cassel[]

Recruited by him after being humiliated and stripped of his title by Louis XIV. They're not close. Trust is not there between them. Montcourt participated in the conspiracy for his own personal vendetta. The Duke also loses his patience with Montcourt whenever a job goes awry, the Parthenay Family robbery that turned into a massacre for starters.
