The Rebel Conspirators are a coup d'etat terrorist faction with a goal in mind to overthrow King Louis.

Season One[]

They claim to be patriots of France, yet their actions say otherwise. Their members are made up of aristocratic noblemen and women who despise the king. There are also commoners and peasants who express great disdain for the King of France among their ranks.

Aside from murder and aiding foreign entities, they also stage highway robberies with an intention to impede and disrupt the funding of the construction to Versailles. Many join willingly, others, like the Chevalier, are forced against their will at the expense of their lives and the lives of others to participate in their criminal actions, even when they convinced him they would be placing his lover, Philippe, upon the French throne, although for the leadership, that is not the main reason for the conspiracy. Cassel is the recruiter for the conspirators. He recruited Montcourt after he was humiliated, stripped of his title, and banished by King Louis and has orchestrated a series of highway robberies since his recruitment.

It is revealed later that Rohan, the ringleader of the conspirators, was secretly working for William of Orange of Holland. Rohan's rebellion is later crushed by Fabien Marchal and the musketeers. With the death of Rohan, Cassel is left without allies and William of Orange has sent in a new spy, a playwright named Thomas Beaumont in Season Two.
